TU Dublin Students’ Union
The TU Dublin Students’ Union (SU) is one of the largest Students’ Unions in Ireland. They represent almost 27,000 students across five campuses. They represent the opinions and uphold the rights of all full-time, part-time, day / block release, postgraduate, apprentice and ERASMUS students, making them one of the most inclusive Student Unions’ in the country.
Challenge
The old TU Dublin Students’ Union website was build using a proprietary content management system. It lacked the flexibility they needed to create a central digital communication platform for the Students’ Union for the future. The website also had some issues with legibility on mobile devices.

After winning the tender to design and develop the new TU Dublin Students’ Union website, the first step we took was to develop a new intuitive navigation system. The union needed a system that made sense to students, but also allowing alignment with the various sections with in the union. So we built a navigation system that grouped the pages by topic, then we added a colour coded system to colour the navigation and prominent elements on each page with the relevant colour for that section e.g. Academic Affairs is pink, Events & Engagement is orange, Welfare & Equality is yellow etc... Using this foundation, we then designed a user friendly website built using an open-source content management system which offers all the flexibility they need to allow them create dynamic pages of content using a mix of text and image/video media.
