Challenge
Their old website was out-of-date, didn’t take advantage of imagery uploaded to the website and used very little colour. It’s interface was cluttered and very text heavy, resulting in a poor user experience. It had a complex tagging system for articles and content types that confused the content editors as much as the website users. It didn’t have the ability to manage donations on-site, so users were directed to a third party website to donate. It also had approx 5,000 pages of content that needed to be migrated to the new website.
Solution
After winning the tender to redesign and redevelop their website, we worked with the Social Justice Ireland team to develop a simpler content creation process and a simpler tagging system to allow both content editors and website users have a better experience when interacting with the website. We reduced the number of content tags from over 50 to 12. We then introduced a colour coding system for these tags, so users could easily follow to similar articles on the website.

When redesigning the website, we designed a layout that made better use of the existing imagery, using it at every opportunity to reduce the text-heavy feel of the website.
We installed an eCommerce store allowing them to manage donations on-site using Stripe as the payment processor.
Finally, as part of the migration of the existing content to the new website, we ‘cleaned’ it to remove any unnecessary code that had accidentally been embedded within the content (as the editing process on the old website failed to filter it out).

It was an absolute pleasure working with Designit in the redesign of our website. The whole process was collaborative from beginning to end. Frank was great in answering all our queries, and his good humour, professionalism, and hard work made it all very easy.
